Audience effects theory: blog tasks
1) Write a definition of a passive audience:
This means that audiences passively take in information and it has the same effect on everyone.
2) Write a definition of an active audience:
This is the more modern view that that audiences interact with and make conscious choices regarding the media they consume.
3) Write a definition of the hypodermic needle theory:
This suggests that audiences are always passive and put the message into their mind as if it was injected into their minds.
4) Write down a media product for each category of Blumler and Katz's Uses and Gratifications theory and WHY it fits that particular audience use/gratification. The first one is done for you:
NFORMATION/SURVEILLANCE: The Times newspaper
> Why: It tells audiences important information about politics, the world and more.
> Why: our lives might have something in similar
>why: because you get time to relax and watch people play sport
> Why: because you get to know about the characters.
5) blue planet offers the audience diversion and entertainment it lets people sit back and relax. It lets people see the life of the creatures that live in the ocean and they get to escape their real lives. They have a chance to sit back and take their mind of everything.
