Reception theory: blog task

 1) What is the preferred reading of a media text?

This is the message or ideology/belief the producers want the audience to believe.

2) What is the oppositional reading of a media text?

This is when the consumer takes away an opposite message or belief different to what the producers intended.

3) How does the Harry Brown trailer position the audience to respond to the teenage characters in the film?

It makes teenagers look dangerous, and makes everyone feel scared and nervous around them.

4) Why might young people reject this reading and construct an oppositional reading of the trailer?

young people might disagree because not all teenagers are the same, and not every teenager is dangerous and harmful. Harry Brown's trailer made the audience have a wrong impression of teenagers.

5) Write a 150+ word analysis of the McDonald's advert using preferred, negotiated and oppositional readings.

The producers want the audience to believe that their Big mac is so filling and is the same as eating a sandwich as you wont feel that hungry until a while. Many people will believe that its filling and big, when in reality it might not have everything that is said on the advert, Many people would disagree as its not healthy at all, having a few lettuce in it doesn't change the fact on how unhealthy it actually is. on the other hand many people would believe everything that is said on the advert as it's easy to get and its not that expensive, and you wouldn't have to cook a meal. Some people might buy it and realise that it wasn't what they were expecting, or it wouldn't be as big as they thought it would be. There would be many different opinions on this big mac advert.
